Diagnose the Real Hiring Need
The job description is not the hiring need. It is a draft artifact.
In intake, uncover:
- What business problem this hire solves.
- What will be true in 6 months if the hire succeeds.
- Which skills are day-one requirements.
- Which skills are trainable.
- What tradeoffs the manager will accept.
- Why previous candidates failed.
The most important question
Ask:
If we can only get three things in this hire, what are they?
This forces priority. A role with 18 must-haves is not calibrated.
